Pupillage
A pupillage at KCH Garden Square provides the flexibility of being able to gain experience in a wide range of subject areas whilst at the same time being able to tailor your training if you so wish.
We usually offer one twelve month pupillage each year commencing in September or October. Recruitment is through OLPAS and we have a fair selection procedure that complies with the Equality Code of the Bar.
We always recruit pupils with the aim of offering a tenancy to them once they have completed their training. Unlike many other chambers, there is no requirement to ‘buy into’ the building we occupy when you become a tenant. Chambers operates a voluntary share system, further details of which will be provided to you during the course of pupillage.
What happens during pupillage?
Pupils spend the first four months with either a civil or criminal pupil supervisor. The next two months is aimed at helping pupils to prepare for their second six months when they will be undertaking their own work. This means that whilst the pupil is still under the supervision of the same pupil supervisor, they spend more time with junior members of chambers learning about their work and tenants from a whole variety of specialist practice areas.
The second six months allows pupils to carry out their own work under the supervision of a different pupil supervisor in a different subject area.
Reviewing progress
Pupils have the opportunity of reviewing their progress and ensuring that their training is meeting their objectives. Reviews take place on an informal basis with pupil supervisors and by more structured periodic reviews.
Applications will usually be acknowledged by email and should include an email address. Applications for this year have now been filled and no more applications will be accepted. Applications for 2011 will be accepted until the end of January 2011.
